China DG Battery LCL Sea Freight: Packaging, Labeling, and Booking Checklist

China DG battery LCL is a receiving standard, not a carton count with a diamond added at the gate. The CFS will look at inner protection, outer pack, IMDG marks, Class 9 labels, cargo transport labels, overpacks, and the booking card. If any fail, the cargo does not enter the master. Extra origin dwell versus general cargo is normal. Plan it.

Xinhan Logistics books lithium LCL when the pack can be photographed and the documents can be shown. This is a physical and booking checklist for 2026. Time comments are planning language, not a live sailing. Send packed measures, UN number, battery type, origin city, and delivery city if you want a real quotation.

1. Classify the SKU before you tape the carton

Lithium ion or lithium metal. Standalone, packed with equipment, or contained in equipment. Watt-hour rating or lithium content. That picks the UN number, packing instruction, and marks. Taping first is how you reprint labels after cutoff. Write the UN on the booking card before pickup. UN3480 power banks are not UN3481 laptops. If the factory is unsure, stop packing. Xinhan Logistics will not invent a class to save a sailing.

2. Inner protection that survives destuff, not only the truck to the CFS

Cells and packs must be protected against short circuit. Terminals covered. No bare metal on bare metal. No spare batteries rattling. Equipment switches off. Bags, trays, partitions, or inserts as required. Inner protection is for destuff as much as for the road to Yantian or Ningbo. LCL is restuffed. If the inner pack collapses when you press the corners, the CFS will see the same thing. A pretty outer diamond on a crushed inner pack is still a reject.

3. Carton strength, closure, and what export quality actually means

The outer carton must hold the gross weight through consolidation, lashing, and destuff. Weak board that bows on a pallet is not export quality because a salesperson said so. Close flaps so they do not open under humidity. No strapping that cuts the Class 9 diamond in half. Gross weight on the carton should match the packing list. Fiction CBM is a destination exam. Measure packed LxWxH. Photograph the tape on the carton.

4. When UN specification packaging is required, use it

Some packing instructions require UN specification packaging. Then the legal pack is the tested design, marked with the UN packaging code, not a branded brown box. Do not cover the UN code with a logistics sticker. Photograph the code before wrap. UN spec not required is not any carton. A broker who always says factory carton is fine, regardless of PI, is delaying the rejection.

5. Pallet rules a battery CFS will actually accept

Ask the receiving warehouse before you palletize. Some DG LCL sheds want cartons loose for inspection. Some want pallets with no overhang, wrap that does not hide labels, and no mixed general cargo on the same pallet. Heat-treated wood if wood is used. Pallet tickets are not package marks. Every package still needs its IMDG identity.

6. Overpacks: when they help, when they hide a defect

An overpack can group packages for handling. It cannot hide missing labels on inner packages. If used, mark OVERPACK and repeat required marks unless they remain visible. Do not use an overpack to conceal damage or undeclared aerosols. Photograph relevant faces before dispatch. If wrap hides the Class 9 diamond, open windows in the film or re-mark. CFS clerks do not hunt under film.

7. IMDG marks that must still be readable after stuffing

Proper shipping name, UN number, shipper and consignee when required, handling marks the instruction demands. Durable. Contrasting. Not a faint inkjet that wipes off. Marks go on the package, not only on a packing list. If you change the proper shipping name on the declaration, change the carton. Xinhan Logistics will compare photos to the draft declaration. Send the photos.

8. Class 9 labels: size, placement, condition

Where a Class 9 hazard label is required, use the correct diamond, the correct size, on a contrasting background, unobstructed, not folded around a corner, not under strapping. Replace scuffed vinyl before the truck leaves. A half-diamond is not a label. Do not place it only on the pallet foot where forklifts erase it. Follow the stricter of warehouse and IMDG for placement.

9. Cargo transport labels and lithium battery marks

Lithium battery handling marks or cargo transport labels apply as the current instruction for that UN and packing case. Include the required UN numbers. A 24-hour emergency telephone that actually answers belongs on the file and on the mark where the rule wants it. A dead number is a failed mark. Do not paste leftover air cargo aircraft-only stickers on a sea carton. Wrong labels are as bad as missing labels. If the booking desk cannot say which sea marks you need, they cannot book it.

10. Orientation arrows and this way up for packs that need them

When orientation arrows apply, put them on two opposing sides. Packed-with configurations and packs with liquid electrolyte risk are where factories forget arrows and remember diamonds. Forgetting is a reject, not a style note. Do not invert cartons on the pallet to make a pretty cube. The arrows are an instruction to every forklift after yours.

11. Photos the booking desk needs before cutoff

Photos are part of the booking. Shoot: inner protection with a carton open; closed faces showing UN number, proper shipping name, Class 9, lithium or cargo transport mark; UN specification code if used; overpack and pallet if used; tape on LxWxH. Date them. Xinhan Logistics will reject a booking that has a declaration and no pack photos when the CFS requires a photo check. That is cheaper than a physical reject after the truck has queued.

12. The booking card: packed measures, UN, battery type, cities

A real quotation and a real booking need the same card. Example: 96 cartons, each 40 x 30 x 28 cm, 12.6 kg gross, lithium-ion cells UN3480, Shenzhen factory, Hamburg warehouse. Add watt-hour if you have it, pallet or loose, ready date, and the test summary identifier. Origin city and delivery city pick the load port, the CFS, and whether CY or a door is even discussable. China to Europe is a poster. Shenzhen to Hamburg is a file.

13. Cutoffs are earlier than general cargo, and there are two of them

Document cutoff and cargo receiving cutoff are different clocks. DG document review sits in front of general LCL. Class 9 receiving is often an earlier window at a different shed. Garment cutoff language misses the DG window. Ask both clocks in writing. Missing UN38.3 summaries create a lag of days to a couple of weeks. Do not buy a receiving slot on a rumour that the lab letter is coming.

14. What the CFS will reject on the dock

The shed is not a debate club. Typical rejects: leaking or swollen packs; crushed corners; missing Class 9 or lithium mark; UN on the paper but not on the carton; UN spec required but not marked; film hiding labels; mixed undeclared aerosol in the same carton; wet cartons; untreated wood; quantity that does not match the declaration; photos that do not match the truck. A reject stacks extra dwell on top of the extra origin dwell battery LCL already carries. Fix the pack at origin. Do not negotiate IMDG at the gate.

15. Use this reject table as a factory briefing

Print it. Put it on the packing line. Empty excuses are not a packing instruction.

Check CFS is likely to accept CFS is likely to reject
Inner pack Terminals protected, no rattle, carton holds shape Loose cells, metal-on-metal, collapsed board
Outer pack Strong carton or UN spec when required, code visible Weak box, UN spec required but unmarked
IMDG marks UN number and proper shipping name match the declaration Marks only on the packing list, or a different name
Class 9 Correct diamond, unobstructed, not scuffed through Missing, undersized, under tape, folded on a corner
Lithium / cargo transport label Correct mark for the UN case, readable Wrong leftover air sticker, blank mark, dead phone
Overpack OVERPACK marked, required labels visible or repeated Film covering diamonds, no overpack mark
Pallet Matches CFS rule, labels still visible, wood legal if used Overhang, mixed general cargo, hidden labels
Booking card Packed LxWxH, kg, UN, battery type, origin city, delivery city CBM guess, battery, no city pair
Documents UN38.3 summary, SDS, invoice that matches labels Missing summary, toy invoice, second description

16. Documents that must travel with the booking, not later

UN38.3 test summary, SDS, commercial invoice, packing list with carton counts and packed measures, classification and packing instruction, draft dangerous goods declaration, booking confirmation. If equipment is packed with spare cells, say so on the invoice. Later is destuff. Later is also a missed cutoff. Invoice language must match the labels. Power banks remain power banks. A forwarder who wants a gift description is not helping your LCL. They are helping a customs problem.

17. LCL versus FCL at the packing stage

LCL means your carton must survive other people’s cargo and a destuff hall. Pack for abuse. FCL can be the right machine when the CFS will not take your UN family, when cube fills a small box, or when you need one sealed DG story. Ask for both stacks in the grey zone. Do not palletize for FCL and then divert to LCL without rechecking warehouse rules. If the house cannot name a Class 9 consolidation, stop packing for that product.

18. DDP versus CY after the boxes are legal

Legal cartons do not create a door product. Many destinations will not DDP Class 9 the way they DDP garments. CY, port collect, or a nominated broker who can handle DG is often the adult end. If you want a door, state the delivery city, dock type, and whether the receiver is allowed to take batteries. Xinhan Logistics will say no to a door that cannot accept the class. Packing does not override local receiving rules.

19. Customs, HS, and the story the carton already told

HS, UN, invoice, and marks must be one story. Export and import will both read it. Do not pack a legal DG carton and then file it as general electronics. The carton already told the truth. Wood packing, lithium, and brand-name batteries can each trigger questions. Answer them with documents, not with a quieter invoice. Quiet invoices are loud later.

20. Common packing mistakes that waste a sailing

These waste cutoffs every week.

  • Class 9 on one face, lithium mark only on the packing list.
  • UN spec required, factory still using a display box.
  • Stretch wrap burying diamonds, no overpack mark.
  • Declared cells plus undeclared spray in one carton.
  • Booking dimensions smaller than the tape on the photo.
  • Emergency telephone that rings out after 18:00.
  • Palletizing before the CFS allowed pallets.
  • Reusing last year’s UN38.3 for a new cell.
  • Air leftover labels on a sea package.
  • Photos sent only when the truck is at the gate.

Each is preventable dwell. Battery LCL already carries extra origin dwell versus general cargo. Do not donate more.

21. Dwell, planning windows, and document lag

Plan sea battery LCL in about a three to seven week window by lane, including extra origin dwell versus general cargo, document review, and destuff. That is planning language. Your city pair can sit at either end. A twelve-day door promise for UN3480 LCL is folklore. If UN38.3 is missing, add days to a couple of weeks before a legitimate carrier looks at the file. Do not compress that lag by lying. Lying relocates the failure to the terminal.

22. How Xinhan Logistics books a battery LCL

You send the cargo card and the photos. We check classification, packing instruction, marks, UN spec need, CFS acceptance, and whether LCL is even open. We write extra dwell and a planning band. We name the receiving warehouse and both cutoffs. We do not publish a fake live rate on a missing summary. If the pack fails the photo check, we say so before the truck. If LCL is the wrong machine, we say FCL or air with the air rules that apply. Judge that sequence, not who shouted this week first.

23. A walk-through packing sequence that survives the gate

Classify. Confirm UN and packing instruction. Confirm whether UN spec packaging is required. Build inner protection. Close the outer pack. Apply IMDG marks, Class 9, lithium or cargo transport label, arrows if required. Mark overpacks if used. Palletize only if the CFS said yes. Photograph. Send packed measures, UN, battery type, origin city, delivery city. Wait for document acceptance, then pickup, receiving, stuffing. Reverse that order and you reprint labels in a car park. The CFS will not hold a master for your car park.

24. After stuffing: what you still own

You still own the invoice truth, the insurance election, the destination broker if CY, and the customer date that assumed garment dwell. Arrival notices, destuff photos, and holds still need an owner. Photograph exceptions immediately. Keep the same UN story through to delivery city. Switching descriptions after sailing is how exams are born.

25. Freeze the packing recipe after the first accepted file

Once a CFS has accepted a pack, freeze the carton, inner tray, label layout, UN, and invoice wording. New cells, new watt-hour, new box, new factory, new overpack film: treat it as a new file. Send Xinhan Logistics the frozen recipe with the next ready date. We will tell you if the CFS or the line changed. Reliability is a repeated legal pack plus a named warehouse, not cheaper board every week.
