This is a working file for 2026 sea export of lithium batteries from China, not a brochure. Cost sits in a stack. Time sits in a clock. Compliance sits in a document pack that must exist before CY cutoff. Keep them on one sheet and you can choose LCL, FCL, port, or DDP without lying to your warehouse.
Xinhan Logistics prices sea lithium as a file: packed CBM, gross kg, UN number, origin city, named delivery place. Planning ranges, not live tariffs: sea DDP packed-to-door often roughly 3 to 7 weeks depending on lane and DG origin dwell; air DDP 5 to 15 days when an airline accepts the same cargo; tax and VAT on consumer lots often larger than freight. Use those bands to plan. Use a quotation to buy. Sea is the default for volume. Air is a date purchase. CY is a legal named place when the door is not. Hidden cells in general cargo are a refusal.
1. Put cost, clock, and compliance on one sheet
A battery sea quote that shows only ocean is incomplete on purpose. Origin DG handling, documentation, carrier surcharge, destination THC, destuff, entry, duty, and last mile are the rest of the money. Origin DG dwell, sailing, availability, clearance, and appointment are the rest of the calendar. UN 38.3, SDS, marks, and IMDG stowage decide whether the box loads. When a factory is late on the test summary, dwell and cost should move on the same line. Xinhan Logistics will not pretend a missing document is a rate discussion.
2. Read the cost stack before you read the ocean
Ocean is one line. The stack is inner truck, export packing check, DG declaration, port DG handling, ocean plus bunker and DG surcharge, destination terminal, CFS destuff if LCL, customs entry, duty and VAT, and cartage to the named place. Drop any line and the all-in is fan fiction. On consumer lots, duty and VAT often dwarf the freight lines. A beautiful ocean number under a toy invoice is a query with storage attached.
3. Origin DG charges are not optional decorations
Class 9 at Chinese ports is a process with a price: document check, sometimes a transport appraisal, DG receiving, labels if the factory skipped them, and a booking that occupies a real stowage category. Those lines exist on FCL, LCL, DDP, and CY. If a quote has no DG handling and still claims lithium, ask where the work went. Buried in a lump is acceptable if the scope is written. Missing is not.
4. LCL versus FCL is a compliance choice first
CBM math is the second question. The first is whether a DG-capable consolidator will take that UN number next to whatever else is in the box. Many lithium files are cleaner as FCL: one shipper, one class story, one seal. Small lots still move LCL on some lanes when CFS, carrier, and destuff all accept the class. LCL DDP often reads longer because of extra CFS. FCL DDP still fails if the warehouse cannot receive a DG container. Ask which mode the destination can physically take.
5. Transit is a clock, not a sailing slogan
Water days are one segment. Packed-to-door is origin dwell plus water plus destination dwell plus truck. For lithium, origin dwell is not a rounding error. Sea DDP packed-to-door often lives in a 3 to 7 week band depending on lane and that origin dwell. Direct services are simpler clocks. Transhipment adds a second port that can miss. Write four numbers: origin, main carriage, clearance, last mile. DDP changes who is late. It does not delete steps.
6. Origin dwell for Class 9 is its own product
Cargo-ready means packed, marked, and documented, not produced. Photograph the packed cargo. That photo is the start gun. Then the port has to accept the class onto a sailing that still has stowage. Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Qingdao, and Xiamen do not share one DG queue. Name the origin city. A quote that assumes cargo is already at CY with a blessed DG booking is not a factory-to-door plan.
7. Main carriage planning bands you can actually use
Lane tables without DG dwell are theatre. Use a band that starts after cargo is accepted at origin, then add origin dwell in front. Peak season, blank sailings, and transhipment stretch every honest band. Ask Xinhan Logistics to attach a target service and whether it is direct. Cheap space on a two-hop routing can erase itself with a miss. Air, when accepted, is a 5 to 15 day packed-to-door planning band, not a sea substitute for undeclared cargo.
8. Destination dwell, destuff, and the door question
Arrival is not availability. Availability is not clearance. Clearance is not an appointment. LCL destuff adds a CFS personality. FCL adds a warehouse that must take a DG box. Last-mile DG rules can stop the truck after a perfect ocean move. If the named place cannot receive the class, the working file should already show CY. Give receiving hours, tail-lift, and whether that dock has signed for this UN number.
| Piece of the sea job | Planning range, not a live tariff | What usually moves it |
|---|---|---|
| Origin DG dwell after packed | Several days to two-plus weeks | Docs, port, carrier DG window, inland truck |
| Sea DDP packed-to-door | Roughly 3 to 7 weeks | Lane, direct vs tranship, origin dwell, exams |
| Air DDP when accepted | 5 to 15 days packed-to-door | Airline DG desk, SoC, screening, dest cartage |
| Duty and VAT on consumer lots | Often larger than freight | HS, customs value, destination tax rules |
| LCL extra versus FCL | Extra CFS time both ends | Consolidation mix, destuff queues, DG CFS capacity |
9. UN numbers, watt-hours, and chemistry before any rate
UN3480 is not UN3481. Lithium ion is not lithium metal. Contained in equipment is not packed with a spare. Watt-hours pick the packing instruction. Incoterms do not. If the factory cannot state the UN number, they are not ready to export, and no sea rate is real. Send chemistry, watt-hours or lithium content, and whether cells are standalone, packed-with, or contained. Classification is the first line of the working file. Rate is a later line.
10. Test summaries, SDS, and the papers origin actually checks
UN 38.3 summaries must match the model on the invoice. SDS must match the chemistry, not a cousin cell from an old order. Some origin ports want a transport identification. Packing photos must show marks a DG officer would accept. If any of those arrive after CY cutoff, you have a missed vessel.
- Invoice that names the battery as a battery, with model and a value customs can believe.
- Packing list with carton count, packed CBM, and gross kg that match the photos.
- UN 38.3 summary tied to the exact model, not a similar family name.
- Current SDS, chemistry-correct, plus UN specification packaging certificates and a DG declaration where required.
Documents later is not a process. It is how working files become storage invoices.
11. Packaging, marks, and pallet discipline
Inner protection against short circuit, crush-resistant outer pack, UN specification packaging where required, Class 9 labels, lithium marks, and pallet wrap that survives inspection. Damaged cartons at CFS are a DG event, not a tape event. Photograph the packed unit the day it is packed. State of charge is an air fight more than a sea fight, but mixed air-sea programs still need honest packing. SKU drift is how a frozen file unfreezes.
12. IMDG, stowage, and carrier DG lists
Sea lithium lives under the IMDG Code and under each carrier’s own DG acceptance list. A carton that is legal in the abstract can still be refused by a service that does not want that stowage. Your factory’s carton is not a stowage plan. Ask whether the booking is accepted as DG. A reliable operator may refuse a mixed load. That refusal is cheaper than a rolled vessel that found the declaration at the gate.
13. China export customs is not a rubber stamp
Export declaration must match the cargo. “Electronic parts” on a power-bank file is how inspections start. Quantity, model, and UN story must be consistent across invoice, packing list, and declaration. Name the origin city and the export port. Inland truck to a port that will not take the class is a warehouse transfer with ambition. Xinhan Logistics will say if the planned port is the wrong port before you pay for the wrong truck.
14. Import clearance, HS, and exam risk
Destination HS for cells, packs, power banks, storage systems, and equipment with batteries are not one code. Some markets want extra product files or a registered importer. First lots attract exams. Repeat SKUs attract fewer surprises, not zero. DDP means an agent is already hired. It does not mean the officer is bored. Answer queries the same day. Build a buffer on a new HS family.
15. Who is importer of record on a sea battery box
IOR is a legal identity, not a courtesy title. Batteries often need an importer who will stand on the entry. Nominee IOR products that work for T-shirts fail for cells. If nobody will be IOR, you may still have a legal ocean move to CY with the buyer’s broker. You do not have DDP door. Write IOR on the working file before you write the Incoterm.
16. DDP sea versus port or CY delivery
DDP door is bookable when IOR, last-mile DG, and the warehouse all line up. Port or CY is the honest named place when any of those fail. Door is a truck. CY is a legal stop. Hidden DG is neither. Ask for both scopes when both can be booked. A DDP slogan that silently becomes CY after berthing is not DDP. It is a baited terminal.
17. Document cutoff is a sailing cutoff
Advance cargo filings, DG declarations, and telex release decisions have clocks that do not care about the factory’s mood. Battery papers should exist before the consolidator or the carrier desk asks. Agree telex or express release at booking if payment allows it. Agree that a model change is a new pack. Miss cutoff and the working file’s water band resets.
18. What tax does to the all-in number
On consumer batteries and small electronics, tax and VAT are often larger than freight. That ratio should sit on the working file so finance does not treat ocean as the project. DDP makes the tax visible because someone pays it to get the cargo out. Give a customs value you can defend. Xinhan Logistics can talk in duty bands when HS and origin are real. We will not draw a fake live rate or a fantasy duty to win the ocean line.
19. Mistakes that roll vessels and inflate dwell
Booking before the UN number exists. SDS from a different cell. Mixing spare packs into equipment cartons. Describing lithium as furniture or home goods. Sending cargo to a non-DG CFS. Changing delivery city after the ocean declaration. Assuming LCL always takes Class 9. Photographing the product but not the marks. Each one is avoidable. Together they turn a 4 week sea plan into a 7 week story. The correction is the first email, not the exam.
20. How to choose LCL, FCL, port stop, or DDP
Choose FCL when volume, class purity, or destination receiving wants a sealed box. Choose LCL when a DG CFS will take the file and the CBM is truly small. Choose DDP door when IOR and last-mile DG are confirmed. Choose CY when they are not. Choose air only when the airline file is clean and the date is worth it.
- If the warehouse cannot take a container, do not buy FCL DDP as a personality.
- If the consolidator cannot name a DG CFS, do not buy LCL as a bargain.
- If the IOR is imaginary, do not buy DDP. If the cargo is hidden DG, do not buy any of it.
Mode is a dock plus a regulation plus a clock. Xinhan Logistics will recommend in that order.
21. What Xinhan Logistics needs to quote a sea battery file
Product name and model. Packed dimensions, carton count, packed CBM. Gross kg. UN number and watt-hours or lithium content. Standalone, packed-with, or contained. Origin city in China. Named delivery place, not a country. IOR identity. Cargo-ready date that means packed. Whether you want door, CY, or whichever is bookable. Attach test summary, SDS, and packing photos. That is a quotation request. “Battery, DDP, best price” is a mood. We can reply to a file with LCL, FCL, air, or a refusal.
22. Peak season, DG windows, and rolled cargo
Peak weeks steal space from ordinary cargo and from DG, depending on the carrier’s stowage. Lithium does not jump the queue because you bought DDP. Book earlier. If the carrier rolls the booking, the water clock resets. The operator should tell you, rebook, and reset the warehouse appointment. Silence is the failure, not the roll itself. Unannounced rolls are malpractice. Announced rolls are shipping.
23. Do not mix equipment files with cell files
Tools with packs installed plus spare cells are two working files. Stuffing spares into the tool cartons to keep one FCL simple is how simple becomes a hold. If the order mixes contained, packed-with, and standalone, say so on day one. Silent mixing is cousin to hiding cells in a sofa. A reliable operator may refuse. That refusal is cheaper than a rolled vessel.
24. Freeze a reusable 2026 working file
After the first legal lot, freeze model, watt-hours, UN number, packing photos, HS, IOR, named place, and mode. The second lot should copy the file. When watt-hours, warehouse, or cell supplier change, unfreeze. Keep cost stack, clock, and document pack on the same sheet so a new buyer can book without folklore. Xinhan Logistics can store that operational file. We cannot store a slogan.
