How DDP Door-to-Door Shipping from China to the USA Works for Importers

DDP door-to-door shipping from China to the USA only works when the quote names the place, the importer plan, and what happens if CBP disagrees with the duty estimate. A slogan that says ‘DDP all-in’ without those facts is a port rate wearing a sticker.

This 2026 guide explains how a written DDP file is built on sea or air. Xinhan Logistics will not invent a live all-in door rate or a fake duty percent.

If you already have a US broker and trucker you trust, you may not need DDP. If you do not, you need the product in writing.

1. Read DDP as a named place plus a duty story

Delivered Duty Paid, when used honestly, means the seller or the contracted desk delivers to the named place with duty handled as agreed. It does not mean ‘no documents’ and it does not mean ‘CBP will accept any value’.

Write the ZIP or warehouse, not ‘USA door’.

2. Planning table: DDP versus nearby products

Product Where it ends What you should still see
CY / port Terminal or CFS Your broker and trucker still work
DAP / door unpaid duty Named dock Duty and tax arrive separately
DDP as written Named dock Duty handling rules in the quote
Express courier Small-lot network Limits on cube and commodity

3. How a DDP file actually moves

Pickup or cargo receive in China, export, ocean or air, US advance data, entry, release, and delivery to the named place. Each step still has a cutoff. DDP wraps the commercial conversation. It does not delete the steps.

Xinhan Logistics will show the mode inside the DDP product: sea DDP or air DDP.

4. Cost: DDP looks heavier because the jobs are visible

A DDP quote should show or clearly bundle origin, carriage, destination, and a duty estimate rule. A CY quote looks lighter because those jobs are hiding on later invoices.

Compare inclusion lists. Do not compare a DDP door number to a CY ocean number.

5. Transit time still depends on the mode inside DDP

Sea DDP to a West Coast door often lives in a multi-week band. East Coast and inland ZIPs run longer. Air DDP often lives in a 5–12 day band when the file is clean. Express can be faster on parcels.

DDP does not create a magic 10-day ocean.

6. Documents DDP still needs

Commercial invoice, packing list, transport document, ISF on ocean, and a classification story someone will sign. The Importer of Record must be a real plan, not a nickname.

We will not ‘fix the invoice after onboard’ to keep a DDP sailing.

7. DDP versus port delivery is the real choice

Port delivery is cheaper to print and heavier to operate if you do not have a team. DDP is heavier to print and lighter to operate if the quote is honest.

Choose based on the team you have in the United States, not based on a slogan.

8. LCL versus FCL still applies under DDP

You can sell LCL DDP or FCL DDP. The utilization math does not disappear because duty is in the conversation. A half-empty HQ DDP is still a half-empty HQ.

Ask which box or which CBM the DDP quote assumes.

9. Packaging failures become DDP extra charges

If cartons collapse at destuff, the door product still has to restack before it can deliver. That work is not ‘free because DDP’.

Photograph the cargo. DDP is not a packaging waiver.

10. Customs: DDP does not repeal HTS

Classification, value, origin, and additional duties on some China-origin goods still apply. A DDP desk that promises ‘low duty’ without reading the product is selling risk.

Xinhan Logistics will estimate duty only from a product story you will sign, and we will say it is an estimate.

11. Common DDP mistakes

  • Buying DDP without naming the Importer of Record
  • Treating a duty estimate as a guaranteed CBP result
  • Comparing DDP to CY and calling CY more honest
  • Hiding batteries or brands to keep the DDP price
  • Giving a residential ZIP when the cargo needs a dock

12. How to choose DDP without painting yourself into a corner

Use DDP when you want one conversation and you will give honest cargo facts. Use port delivery when you already have brokerage and trucking you trust.

You can change later. You should not mix the two mid-voyage without a written change.

13. How Xinhan Logistics quotes DDP

We ask for carton table, origin city, delivery ZIP, ready date, product family, and who will be Importer of Record. Then we recommend sea or air DDP and write what is estimated.

If those facts are missing, we will not send a door number anyway.

14. Peak season makes honest DDP more valuable

When terminals are busy, a desk that already owns entry and delivery can keep last free day visible. A CY bargain plus a missing broker is how peak cargo dies in storage.

Book the DDP file earlier, not cheaper-and-later.

15. Insurance still belongs on a DDP file

Door delivery does not mean the cargo cannot be damaged. Keep stuffing photos and a policy that matches the named place.

DDP is not cargo insurance.

16. After arrival, DDP should still warn you about the clock

Even when the desk owns delivery, you should see arrival and any hold. Silence is not a premium feature.

Ask how holds are communicated before you book.

17. E-commerce doors are a special DDP product

Amazon-style inbound and many 3PLs need labels and appointments. A residential DDP product will not survive that receiver. Say the receiver type.

DDP cannot relabel a fantasy SKU into a compliant inbound.

18. What this article will not publish

No live ‘DDP to New York is $X/CBM’. No guaranteed duty percent. No claim that DDP avoids CBP.

Ask for a quotation on this week’s cargo and this ZIP.

19. Surcharges and duty true-ups should be written

If CBP assesses more than the estimate, the quote should say who pays the difference. If fuel or peak moves, the validity window should say so.

Unwritten true-ups are how DDP earns a bad name.

20. Keep one owner; DDP fails when three vendors each own a slice

Origin vendor, mystery broker, and a trucker who never saw the invoice is not DDP. It is a relay race without a baton.

Xinhan Logistics will run the file as one conversation or we will tell you to buy port delivery instead.

21. Quote checklist for a DDP RFQ

  • Carton table and product family
  • Delivery ZIP and receiver type
  • Importer of Record plan
  • Ready date and mode preference if you have one
  • Any battery, food, wood, or brand flags

22. Score the first DDP arrival

Did the invoice match the cargo? Did the duty estimate come with a written rule? Did delivery match the named place? Did extras appear without names?

Five greens can earn the next door file. Two reds should send you back to port delivery until the product is rewritten.

23. Reduce surprise cost by freezing the carton spec

DDP quotes die when cube and values change after booking. Tell the desk before cutoff if the factory added cartons or changed the product.

A silent cube increase is not a DDP feature.

24. Residential versus commercial delivery is not a detail

Liftgate, appointment, and limited-access fees live here. A commercial dock DDP and a residential DDP are different products.

Write the dock hours. Write whether a trailer can enter.

25. Close with a real DDP RFQ

Send product name, packed dimensions, gross weight, origin city, and delivery city. That is how DDP door-to-door shipping from China to the USA becomes a file.

A reply that only says ‘DDP all-in’ is a no.

26. Do not use DDP to hide a product you cannot enter

If the cargo is restricted, mislabeled, or missing a brand right, DDP will not launder it. It will only put your name, or the named importer, closer to the problem.

Enterable cargo first. DDP second.

27. Name sea or air inside the DDP sentence

Say ‘sea DDP to this ZIP’ or ‘air DDP to this ZIP’. The wrapper without the mode is how timelines get invented.

Xinhan Logistics will write the mode in the quote title so nobody ‘forgets’.

28. Write the true-up rule before CBP has an opinion

If the duty estimate is low, who pays? If it is high, who refunds? If CBP reclassifies, who owns the extra? A DDP file without those sentences is a port file with optimism.

Xinhan Logistics will write the rule in the quote. We will not discover it after the entry.

29. DDP does not remove your need to know the cargo

Even when a desk files the entry, you still chose the product, the values, and the receiver. If you cannot explain what is in the cartons, you cannot supervise DDP. You can only hope.

Hope is not a door product. Read the invoice you are asking us to carry to a ZIP.

30. Match the delivery equipment to the named place

A container-yard pickup, a CFS destuff plus box truck, and a live 40HQ unload are different machines. DDP that assumes the wrong machine will still arrive, then wait, then bill.

Tell us the dock, the forklift, and the hours. Door-to-door is a vehicle plan, not a feeling.

DDP from China to the USA is a written importer plan plus a named ZIP plus a duty true-up rule. If any of those three is missing, you bought a warmer font on a port rate.

The second DDP file should reuse the classifiable names and the receiver rules. If every door shipment is invented again, you are paying first-file risk as a lifestyle. Xinhan Logistics wants the second file quieter than the first.

Do not use DDP to hide a product you cannot enter. Restricted, mislabeled, or brand-risky cargo does not become legal because the quote said door. Enterable cargo first. Wrapper second.

Name sea or air inside the DDP sentence. The wrapper without the mode is how timelines get invented. Xinhan Logistics will write the mode in the quote title so nobody forgets which vehicle is carrying the duty story to the ZIP.

Residential door and commercial dock door are different DDP products. Liftgate, appointment, and trailer access belong in the RFQ. A 40HQ residential fantasy is how door-to-door earns a bad name. If the receiver is FBA or a strict 3PL, say so; a residential DDP product will not survive that inbound.

Send the ZIP, the importer plan, and the carton table in the same RFQ. A reply that only says DDP all-in has already told you the product is not written. Xinhan Logistics will not send a door number anyway if those facts are missing. Freeze the carton spec to the quote or you no longer have a written DDP door service; you have a brand-new shipment file that must be quoted again.
