How to Ship Amazon FBA Cargo from China: Complete Logistics Guide for Sellers

Amazon FBA cargo from China is not a normal importer shipment with a flexible warehouse appointment. The fulfillment center will reject cartons that miss FNSKU labels, box labels, or content data, and it will not wait while you argue with a factory about a packing list. This 2026 guide is for sellers whose goods leave Chinese factories and must land in an Amazon FC in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, or other Amazon markets.

The work covers process, cost factors, transit stacks, documents, DDP versus port delivery, LCL versus FCL, packaging and prep, customs, and the mistakes that create stranded freight. Ranges below are planning bands. Xinhan Logistics quotes named origin cities, destination FCs, and packed cartons. We will not publish a fake live FBA kilo rate as if it were a tariff.

Treat FBA as two jobs glued together: legal export and import, then Amazon inbound compliance. If either job is sloppy, the other one cannot save the shipment.

1. Start with the FBA shipment ID, not with a vessel name

Create the inbound shipment in Seller Central before you book ocean space as if the cargo were generic wholesale. The shipment ID, FC code, and carton plan drive labels. A forwarder who only asks for CBM and a port pair is quoting a different product than Amazon receiving.

Freeze SKU list, units per carton, and whether the cargo is boxed small parcel, LTL, or FCL to the FC. Changing the plan after cartons are taped is how you pay for relabel in a US warehouse.

2. Map factory city to the FC the algorithm actually assigned

Sellers often say they ship to Los Angeles when Amazon assigned ONT8, SMF3, or an East Coast FC. The last-mile trucking and the ocean discharge port are not the same sentence. Send the FC code with the quote request.

If Amazon splits one PO across two FCs, you have two deliveries, two label sets, and often two last-mile appointments. Do not stuff both into one container and hope the trucker sorts it.

3. FBA process from China factory to Amazon receiving

Typical stack: factory pack, origin prep and labeling, export clearance, main carriage, destination customs, drayage or air handover, then FC delivery. Prep can happen at the factory or in a China warehouse. Factories that have never seen an FNSKU will misplace it.

Xinhan Logistics will not pretend a factory tape gun is an FBA prep station. If labels must be applied in Guangzhou or Changsha, say so at booking.

  • Packed carton dimensions and gross kg per carton.
  • FNSKU files and Amazon carton labels for this shipment ID.
  • Box content information submitted before cargo is ineligible.
  • Export invoice that matches the units Amazon expects.

4. Planning table: mode versus typical factory-to-FC bands

Bands assume complete labels, ordinary general cargo, and no exam. Peak season, batteries, and inspection sit outside the band.

Mode Typical planning band to FC Best use
Express / courier 4–8 days Launch samples, urgent restock, very small kilos
Air freight + truck to FC 7–14 days High value or stockout risk
LCL sea + DDP to FC 30–45 days to US West planning Small replenishment that is not urgent
FCL sea + truck to FC 22–40 days depending on coast Full container restock
Air to EU/UK FC 8–16 days planning When sea misses the buy box window

5. Cost factors sellers forget until the invoice arrives

Origin pickup, labeling labor, materials, export docs, main freight, destination customs, last-mile to FC, waiting time, palletization, and storage if Amazon reschedules. A cheap ocean rate with unlabeled cartons is not cheap.

We will not list a fake all-in USD per kilo for every SKU. Chargeable weight, CBM, and the FC region change the number. Send packed sizes.

6. How long FBA shipping takes when you count Amazon, not just the ship

Port-to-port is the middle. Add 1–4 days origin prep if labels are applied in China, 1–3 working days routine export, ocean or air, destination clearance, then FC appointment. An FC that is booked out adds calendar days that no sailing schedule can delete.

Air looks fast until cartons sit for missing box content data. Sea looks slow until you compare it with a stockout. Plan the stack, not a slogan.

7. What documents Amazon cargo still needs as commercial freight

Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, exporter customs data, and destination entry papers. FBA labels do not replace an invoice. Customs officers do not scan FNSKUs as a legal description.

For US ocean, ISF timing still exists. For DDP, the forwarder’s broker needs the same truth the seller put in Seller Central: product, materials, units, value.

8. DDP versus port delivery for FBA inbound

Port delivery drops the legal import on the seller or a third party who may not be set up to truck to an FC. DDP keeps duties, clearance, and delivery in one operational chain so the FC is not waiting on a customs hold the seller did not staff.

DDP is not a licence to under-value. Amazon receiving and customs are different doors. A DDP quote that cannot name the FC is a port quote in costume.

9. LCL versus FCL when the cargo is Amazon cartons

LCL fits sellers who are not filling a 20-foot yet. It adds CFS cutoffs, consolidation dwell, and more carton handling. FCL fits large restocks and reduces touch points, but a half-empty 40-foot is often more expensive than a tight LCL plus honest CBM.

Do not mix FBA cartons with a friend’s unrelated wholesale cargo in one LCL lot unless both parties accept the delay and the document mess. Amazon FCs do not share a customs entry happily.

10. Packaging, prep, and why factories fail Amazon inbound

Polybags, suffocation warnings, bubble wrap, expiration labels, and opaque bags for adult products are Amazon rules, not Chinese export rules. A factory that exports furniture will not invent FBA prep from a WeChat sticker.

Photograph every SKU after prep. The photo is cheaper than a dispute about who omitted a label.

11. FNSKU and carton labels: the non-negotiable layer

Each sellable unit needs the FNSKU Amazon issued for that listing, not the factory barcode from Taobao packaging. Carton labels must match the shipment ID and carton count. Cover old barcodes. A scanner that reads the wrong code is a receiving failure.

Print quality matters. Damp thermal labels in a 40-foot to Houston in summer become grey smears. Use the spec Amazon currently publishes, then test a scan before stuffing the container.

12. Box content information and why cargo becomes ineligible

Amazon wants to know what is in each carton before the truck arrives. If you skip it, the shipment can become ineligible for certain delivery options or can sit. The packing list for customs and the box content file for Amazon must tell the same unit story.

Changing units after the file is sent is how you create a mystery carton. Freeze the pack, then file.

13. Pallets, floor-loaded FCL, and FC receiving rules

Some inbound methods want pallets; some FCs still receive floor-loaded containers under specific programs. Do not guess from a 2022 blog post. Check the shipment type Amazon assigned this week.

Pallet height, wrap, and corner boards are not decoration. A collapsed pallet at an FC is your problem, not Amazon’s overtime plan.

14. Customs at destination when the consignee is an FC address

The fulfillment center is a delivery node, not your importer of record by default. Know who files entry. Duty, HTS, and PGA flags (food, cosmetics, electronics with radio) still apply. An FC will not lobby CBP for you.

If goods need FDA prior notice or similar, start that clock before the vessel, not after the truck is at the gate.

15. Restricted, oversize, hazmat, and battery SKUs

Amazon’s catalogue restrictions and the airline or ocean DG rules are two lists. A lithium battery that can fly as excepted quantity may still be blocked as FBA hazmat. Tell the forwarder the UN number and watt-hours at quote stage.

Oversize cartons that exceed Amazon’s current inbound limits get refused. Measure the packed carton, not the product on a studio table.

16. How to choose origin labeling versus destination relabel

Origin labeling in China is usually cheaper and faster for the FC appointment. Destination relabel warehouses near LA or NJ add days and a handling invoice. Use destination prep only when the factory cannot be trusted and the launch date still fits.

A reliable China freight forwarder will say which SKUs they can prep and which they will refuse.

17. Partnered carrier versus your own trucker to the FC

Amazon partnered carrier programs can simplify small parcels. Larger freight often still needs your forwarder’s appointed trucker with an appointment. Missing the delivery window creates storage and a reschedule fee that no ocean discount offsets.

Give the trucker the shipment ID, FC code, and pallet count that match Seller Central. Inventing a PO number at the gate fails.

18. Common mistakes that strand FBA freight from China

Using factory EAN labels. Sending the wrong FC. Mixing expiration lots. Declaring a gift value. Floor-loading when the shipment type wanted pallets. Booking FCL before the inbound was created. Ignoring peak cutoff calendars.

Also: putting batteries in a carton marked as toys without telling anyone. That mistake is both customs and Amazon.

19. How to reduce FBA shipping cost without starving the listing

Raise carton utilization within Amazon’s limits. Consolidate SKUs that share an FC. Prefer sea when inventory days-on-hand allow. Label in China. Avoid destination storage by filing documents early. Do not buy a 40HQ for 12 CBM.

The largest lever is usually mode choice plus honest CBM, not arguing a $30 origin fee.

20. Worked thinking example without fake rates

A seller in Ohio needs 180 cartons of home gadgets, 0.9 CBM total, Shenzhen factory, FC in California. That is LCL or air territory, not FCL. If the listing is already stocked out, air may be the commercial choice even if sea looks cheaper on a spreadsheet.

If the same seller later ships 24 CBM monthly to one FC, FCL becomes the conversation. Quote the packed cargo you have, not the cargo you hope to have next quarter.

21. Peak season FBA from China

Q4 space, earlier CY cutoffs, longer FC appointment queues, and more Amazon inbound policy tweaks. Export law does not relax. Submit labels earlier. Do not add last-minute SKUs to a declared carton plan.

Prime events create mini-peaks. If your restock must arrive before an event, count backward from FC receiving, not from ETA at Long Beach.

22. Multi-marketplace sellers: US, EU, and UK are not one FBA product

EORI, VAT, IOSS, and UK post-Brexit entry are not copy-paste from a US ISF file. Labels, language on invoices, and FC codes differ. A carton set built for ONT8 will not be accepted at a German FC because you reused the PDF.

Tell Xinhan Logistics the marketplace and the FC, not only Amazon as a brand.

23. How Xinhan Logistics runs an FBA file

We ask for packed cartons, FBA shipment ID, FC code, ready date, and whether prep is done. We recommend LCL, FCL, air, or DDP against that file. We will not book a sailing that cannot carry the labels you still have not printed.

If the factory pack is unstable, we will say the cargo should hit a China warehouse first. That sentence is cheaper than an FC refusal.

24. What this article will not publish

No live Amazon partnered-carrier rate card, no guaranteed inspection-free customs, no fake door-to-FC USD that ignores CBM. Amazon inbound rules change. Ocean bunkers move.

Send the product, the packed cargo, and the FC. We will return a plan and a quotation for named places.

25. Quote checklist before you book FBA cargo from China

Product name and materials, packed L×W×H and kg per carton, carton count, origin city, FC code, shipment ID if issued, ready date, DDP or not, battery status, and photos of packed cartons.

If any of those are missing, you are not requesting an FBA quote. You are requesting a guess.

26. After arrival: receiving, discrepancies, and claims

Amazon receiving can take days after the truck leaves. Unit discrepancies should be traced to the origin packing photos and the box content file, not to a vague complaint about the ocean carrier.

If cartons are damaged, photos at destuff and at the FC gate matter. Silence until a reimbursement ticket is closed is how facts die.
