China topped the world in the international market share of shipbuilding completion, new orders and hand-held orders in january-June 2022, according to data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday.
From January to June in 2022, China’s shipbuilding completed 18.5 million DWT, down 11.6% year on year, of which 5.93 million revised gross tons were seaboring vessels. The newly received orders were 22.46 million DWT, down 41.3% year on year, among which the revised gross ton of seagoing vessels was 11.13 million. By the end of June, the number of orders in hand was 102.74 million DWT, up 18.6% year on year, of which 42.29 million revised gross ton was for Marine vessels, with export vessels accounting for 88.7% of the total.
From January to June, China’s shipbuilding completions, new orders and hand-held orders accounted for 45.2%, 50.8% and 47.8% of the world’s total in terms of dead weight tons, and 42.0%, 47.7% and 41.5% of the world’s total in terms of revised gross tons, ranking first in the world’s international market share.
From January to June, the concentration ratio of the top 10 shipbuilders completed in China was 70.9%, 1.6 percentage points higher than that at the end of 2021. The concentration of the top 10 enterprises with newly accepted orders was 68.3%, down 1.0 percentage points from the end of 2021. The concentration of the top 10 enterprises in terms of hand-held orders was 66.5%, down 3.0 percentage points from the end of 2021.
Previous statistics from the China Shipbuilding Industry Association showed that from January to May, construction ships accounted for a faster proportion of completed ship products, while gas ships saw the largest year-on-year growth among new ship products.
